Saturday night. Star has thirteen stars in her jar: “Can I get my tent now?” Mom says, “Not yet. You need thirty stars.” At the night market, Star wants a tent light, and Dad says, “I can get it for you!” One ring, two rings… “So close! One more!” The last ring gets a prize: just tissues!

“Ten more rings! I want it now!” This time it is Star who says, “Dad, not yet.” Everyone laughs, even Dad. On Sunday morning, Dad shows Star a big map: one star, one dot. Seventeen more dots look so far away, but Mom says, “Now look back. Thirteen dots!” Star smiles: “Not yet. But I can get there!”

In the afternoon, Chen rides with no training wheels, and Star wants to ride now. Dad makes five steps to the big tree: “Step one first!” The bike falls over. “I can’t do it!” Dad adds one word: “You can’t do it yet.” Star tries again: “I did it! Step one, done!” And Dad’s wish? A bike ride with Star.
